Conclusion

 

My teaching Experience

 

All students when we decide to develop a career as a teacher we could feel some scare about the working practice. At the same time, there are opposite feelings about the capacity to develop success in a class with the different problems or situations that a teacher would find in a classroom. There, it the important to develop a teaching practice when the students are developing studies to become as a teacher. With real students in a real situation, it is different from the position or the point of view as a student or as a teacher. Now I will tell you some experiences about my practice.

The popular saying, practice makes perfect. Teachers can grow if they take in mind that the exercise on this process of teaching-learning is going to change continuously and people that need to learn another language have different motivations or needs. When I was starting my online practices at the university I was thinking about my group of students, their level of English knowledge, and the difficulty to develop a class online. The moment already come and I had two groups of students, they were studying at the UNAD the same career with the same intentions to become English teachers. I had two feelings at the same time, I had the opportunity to develop my practice with English students of my university. And they could have a lot of knowledge and the class could be interesting or very difficult to drive. In this way, my big problem was that not all the students attended these classes or sessions. They expressed that the schedule did not convenient for them. On the other hand, I was worried about the internet connection problems. The second problem never did not present difficulty to develop the class.

The teachers need to develop a plan for class, design materials, prepare videos, made a lesson plan, and think about the needs of their students to achieve the goals. These activities make growing the teacher through time. The teacher must apply the knowledge acquired at the university, review some theories, and designed tools for their students' focus to achieve the goal of the lesson. Then, the teacher has to use a digital tool, choose the best video, prepare practice exercises, develop a strategy to use in class with the purpose to promote the language skills. But this teacher is a student and has to listen to their teachers who try to transmit interesting tips to help the new teachers to develop their class with success. Now, this teacher is ready to afront the challenge to teach other people who need help and company to encourage them to speak a new language.

The students are the most important part of this process. They are people of different places, with different ways to see and to understand life. But they are interesting to develop this class because each one has different experiences, they had appropriated the knowledge in different ways. My students were of different places and cities of our country with their own personal problems and with different motivations and interests to learn English. Some of my students are teachers in a town in small schools with little children. My students have strengths, some of them had a good level of English and they did not scare to speak in public. But there were other students that considered their level of English very bad and they decided not to participate in these classes. Some students sometimes tried to entry in class but when they saw other students preferred to leave it. I called some students and I invited them to this class, but they did not attend any class.

Concluding, with my store of experience as a teacher, I tell you I grew a lot with my online English class, I had the opportunity to know new people, they told me about their places and cities, I could know about their dreams and wishes, and some students told me about their trips and I know some of them are living abroad. Now I was thinking about the importance to develop teaching practice. The results are very important and interesting for me because I could observe some things about the language need to develop my skills, the need to learn to build teaching materials and tools. I could put in practice the planning of class and my fails are evident now for me. The classroom is the laboratory where the teachers have the opportunity to develop some interesting practices, also, we make observations, develop statistics, prepare evaluations and we can discover the opportunity to grow with our students because they are very important in this process.

Describing and interpreting video

This lesson was developed thinking the most important objective of English sessions develop the speaking ability. In this way, this lesson was planned with this purpose. The topic for this class was Describing and interpreting. The objectives of this lesson were the following: To talk about places or situations, practice speaking skills, to use nouns and adjectives. As a strategy to warm this class then of greetings, I have some questions for my students about their day, the weather where they are living. I try always to choose for them to practice with online exercises. Picture Vocabulary Multiple Choice Quiz 1and Quiz 4. Then Listening and trying to sing and read the song "Just the Way You Are" by Bruno Mars. and finish Describing cities and images.

The activity most important of this class was the opportunity to see my student speaking comfortably, with fluency and confidence. Because, when I was preparing this lesson I thought that this topic could be difficult and I was worried. Because did not all students of this group attend these classes. I felt worried before the class about this topic that I was planning to invite the students to speak about and describe their city.

My student lives in Puerto Morelos in Mexico country, this situation was good to develop a conversation about the description of this city for me. She tells me some important aspects of the tourist activity. She said this city is near the beach and the sea is beautiful.



Tongue Twister

This lesson was so hard for me because I hope my students from this day and did not appear in class. I was scared at that moment, I had to take air and start the recording of this class. This class was planned thought with the participation of students, where they must repeat the words first slowly, then a normal, and finish the exercise with faster repetition. This exercise didn't possible to develop with my students that day. I think this was the worse day of class for me one class without students doesn't have sense.

This document allows the teacher to carry a record of classes developed with some information about the class, students, and notes where the teacher could recall some important aspects as a function of didactic materials, special notes, and interesting things to take in mind to use in future lessons. This document was very interesting in my pedagogical process.


A sample lesson plan that was particularly difficult and why?




This lesson in that opportunity did so difficultly for me because did the first time that my students did not attend the class. At this moment I did not know that do because I  did not prepare. I make a record of the class alone.  But I did not feel comfortable.  I needed the students in my class to develop the activity. For this class, I had prepared a tongue twister to practice exercises of pronunciation. In the last session, this exercise was interesting.  These students smiled a lot because they made mistakes when they tried to say fast all of the words. In this class, this exercise did not have sense.

First, I want to tell you, this was the best experience for me. because I had two groups of people of different places and they participated in class since their living places. In the first place, because this is a modality of the UNAD university. and the second place, The pandemic of COVID-19 did mandatory to develop classes through the internet.

MY TEACHING PHILOSOPHY 

As a student, I have tried studying English many times with bad results. I am a student of degree in English as a foreign language in the Universidad Nacional Abierta y a Distancia UNAD,   I belong to the CEAD Jose Acevedo y Gomez in Bogotá city. In the path of my English learning, I have understood that if you want to increase your second language, you need to spend a lot of time, enjoy your learning and share with others your skills. With time, it is possible to learn if you discover your own motivations and interests. a language is not possible to learn in a week or in a semester or buying a lot of books. This is a path where you can establish the goals to achieve and the results that you are searching for. with help of your teachers and an academic process. I choose this career because I thought that learn English was so difficult and I have not had opportunities to travel abroad, But I could see other people who did learn without go on a trip or move another country.   On the other hand, I like to teach other people, and I thought then because I do not study English as a teacher and enjoy this practice teaching this language. And this year  I am in eight semesters of my career and this semester I developed my experience as an English teacher.

My beliefs about my teaching.


Through this practice of teaching, I have thought to create a communicative context in which my students can find effective resources to expand their knowledge boundaries and reach their personal and academic goals in a joyful way. My teaching goals require effort, time, and tons of passion, the main key concepts that come together with satisfying teaching practice. Depending on my student's goals and needs I can adapt my teaching practice according to different approaches, recognizing mainly what the students require to improve their individual learning process.

This university has an advantage because all classes are developed online, in this way teacher and students have a disposition a lot of kind of tools to use according to with the different ways to learn, students can take advantage of the knowledge available on the internet as videos, songs, films, documents among others. Also, there is an opportunity to develop our tools focused on the students.

On the other hand, the student has the opportunity to learn develop online exercises, sharing practices with their classmates, watching videos, learn with their favorite music, practice with letters of the songs, among others. Students are the manager of their knowledge and they can choose the favorite contents to learn, develop and increase the (writing, listening, speaking, and reading) skills.

What I learned about teaching speaking skills.


I always thought about the difficulty to learn to speak the second language and encourage the learners to practice speaking without thinking if the student makes mistakes. The first is lose to afraid to talk more comfortably. Students can participate in class if the teacher develops a simple topic where all students in different levels have the opportunity to take part. Secondly, the teacher asks questions about the topic and introduces the student with images, reading, with songs and invite the student to read aloud in class, on this way students lose the scare to speak. third, Teachers must try do not correct mistakes in their students when they are developing the speaking exercise. with time students can discover these mistakes. 

What I learned about teaching in online environments. 


The teacher always must be prepared to confront a lot of problems as the connection, energy fails, or students do not appear in their class.

The teacher must revise with anticipation the material to use, observe the working of links and the existence of pages. Because sometimes do not appear when we want to work on them.

As a teacher, I like to work with songs because I have discovered for the easily by students to put in practice the speaking skill following the letters of the songs, and reading these letters. I thought this is a good exercise to develop listening, reading, speaking, and writing.

Working online, the teachers can find good material online as videos, songs, interesting readings, blogs specially develops to learn English, and web pages designed for learners.

Finally,  with the advantage of making a record of class because the link is always available for the students can consult.

My principles about teaching speaking online



  • It is mandatory to prepare the lesson with enough time.
  • Respect for the timetable of class, all people, teacher, and students.
  • Respect for different opinions and different thinking.
  • To encourage the student's group to learn, increase and use a new vocabulary. The songs are perfect for this activity.
  • The teacher must motivate the students to participate in class, with questions, with opinions and contributions, reading exercises, repeating.
  • Teachers have to find different material to develop class because students need to see new things and take new ideas about language learning.
  • All people always have things to tell, and we can learn about their experiences.
  • In a class, all people students, and teachers can learn new things.

Hello, everybody. I am Tito Julio González. I live now in Bogotá city. I am studying for a degree in English as a foreign language at the Universidad Nacional Abierta y a Distancia UNAD. I belong to the CEAD Jose Acevedo y Gomez in the city. on my life, I have discovered my vocation to teach other people, to share the knowledge acquired. To this purpose. I have now a lot of questions but the most important is to know How the students learn? Developing my teaching practices, I could learn more about my students' group. My conclusion was the teacher has to become a researcher and use the classroom as a laboratory to put in practice some methodologies, strategies, and put in evidence the impact of teaching materials developed for these classes.

I put my knowledge acquired at the university to the service of my learners, with the intention that they obtain the best results in their activities. The process of teaching-learning is continuously changed. I think teachers today have to more receptive. They will try to understand the needs and motivations of their language students. Students now have a compromise to participate actively in the acquisition of knowledge. They must identify the motivation to learn, and working every day to achieve it.
